Oscar Mulkers / Leopold Muller

Leopold Muller

This painting appeared to be anonymous at first sight.
I bought it intuitively as the quality was there.
Later I discovered the signature in the lower left corner.
And of course what was written on the back.
Though the name suggest a german origin it has
been made by a painter who lived and worked
in Antwerp (Belgium).

Its' title was indeed on the back of this painting:
"Fevrier en Foret" signed Leop. Muller and
the number 28 which I presume stands for
1928, the year it has been painted.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 40 / 50 cm.

Simply signed "Muller" and with an interesting approach
to nature in that time of the year. Though naturally
painted it is by no means boring as the working

of its' light has been done with vision.

By browsing on the internet more examples can be found by
this Belgium artist from Antwerp.  Quite another palette,
much brighter and even less naturalistic though it
remains clear what the subject is. As on most paintings
of Leopold Muller a title and year of production has been
added on the back and the typical signature: Leop Muller.
This one is called "Forêt de Fontainebleau" where
this painter worked more than often. (19)27
Work on canvas. Dimensions 48,5 / 60 cm.
