Jacques van den Seylbergh ( 1884 - 1960 )

Shortly in time we obtained two crayons by Jacques van
den Seylbergh. They are both nice in their own way!

This is the second crayon by the well known pastellist Jaak
van den Seylbergh who was born in Antwerp. He followed his
studies in Geel, The Hague and Paris where he completed his
studies in pastel. He lived in Aarschot and was close friends
with James Ensor. He died in Knokke in 1960 of a heart
attack. He is regarded as one of the best pastellist in
Europe and works of him can be found all over the world:
United States, Canada, India and even the Swedish
Royal family has some works in their collection.
Work on Cardboard. Dimensions 30 / 33 cm.

The signature which is easily distinguishable.
He often combined crayon with paint and in his
works he really catches the dreamy atmosphere
of a summer day in the countryside.

Some nice details can be studied in this work.
Work on paper / cardboard. Dimensions: 30 / 33 cm
that seems to be favourable dimensions for this artist.

Besides the typical crayon expression Seylbergh often
brushes the texture here and there what makes the
overall expression more lively.

Besides being a gifted drawer his playing with colours
and refined taste for that is evident. The tiles on the roof
can be a challenge for a lot of artist but van den
Seylbergh depicts them very credible.
