Arnold Gorter ( 1866 - 1933 )
A nice work on canvas from most likely Arnold Gorter
is presented here. The signature is difficult to distinguish
but is there in the lower right corner. Probably washed
away when cleaning this painting. His subjects are
often the so called "Vordense Beek" which stands
for a small water between the meadows in the Netherlands.
Vorden is situated in the eastern part of Holland.
A bit less frequently done by this painter: Ducks resting.
Careful examining the brush strokes the painter made to
reproduce the sandy edges on the left learns that this was
absolutely the way Gorter did this in a lot of his paintings.
The same thing counts for the light, the birch trees and
the water expression. He often depicted the various
seasons at the same spot. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.
You are able to enlarge this photo by clicking on it and
a comparison with the signature here below is revealing!
It appears that he signed his works in a later stage as the
paint more than often lies on the brushstrokes of the
painting itself. See two other signatures here below
and judge for yourself.
This signature also is hardly readable due to possible
cleaning of the painting. The prefixes however do
resemble each other (once discovered!)
Jaak Gorus
A very delicate dry needle technique by this belgium artist.
Prints in Belgium are sometimes still
rewarded by the "Jaak Gorus Prize".
Work on paper. Dimensions: 20 - 25 cm.
