Amedeo Merello / Cecile Mersch / H.W. Mesdag / Johan Messely

Amedeo Merello

This Italian born painter made a lot of small works
especially mushrooms. His colours are always rewarding
but not always of equal quality. In this painting he really
succeeded and therefore it should be regarded as
a valuable piece as his paintings go up to 3000 Euro's.
Painted on a wood panel. He wrote his name, title
and dating on his works. Sometimes partly on front
but allways on the back. This one is called
Autum morning and is dated 1944.
Oil on Panel. Dimensions 28 / 28 cm.

Cecile Mersch

The light in this painting makes it very striking.
In fact it is proof of a certain kind of art of living!
Work on panel. Dimensions: 35 / 50 cm.

H. W. Mesdag

This painting actually appears to be twice as big.
Someone must have cut of the real signature and
tried to copy the H.W. Mesdag signature.
(lower left) One of the various tricks in falsification.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 50 - 70 cm.

Johan Messely

This Johan Messely painting dates from 1986. Besides
being signed, this work has a sticker on the back that gives
the exact date information and name of the maker. Johan
nearly allways worked with Schleiper frames. This work
is in a very fine condition and allready has the elements
present in his later works. For that reason we think the
work represented here below is somewhat earlier.

By the time I'm writing these comments we visited
the vernissage of an exposition by Johan Messely and
Irenée Duriez in Ichtegem (Belgium) We were invited
because I recently contacted him regarding the farmhouse
painting. He and his wife were pleasantly surprised by our
visit all the way from Holland to the south part
of Belgium. We will never forget the hospitality we met
there and of course the beautiful artwork exposed inside
and outside in a lovely garden. Even more of a big surprise
it was to be able to buy this work the monday after!
Oil on canvas. Dimensions 70 / 80 cm.

Some of the paintings have been provided with a sticker
like this one. 1986 was the year of production.

Johan Messely is responsible for a lot of art prints
Around the world in a soft impressionistic style.
We’ve recently met Johan and his wife as Johan
invited us for the vernissage of one of his expositions.
It is great to see that an artist of his caliber still is
a humble and friendly person and he was surprised
that people came to visit him all the way from the
Netherlands. The farm indeed is an earlier work most
likely at the beginning of the eighties. His father
painted a bit in the same style. We tend to think that
this early work seems to be more “honest’ though
Johan explains it as follows:
”Though the a
pproach of my paintings seems to be
a bit kitsch, the light in the south of France really
turns out to be that way”.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 40 / 60 cm.

This signature has been obtained from one of his original works
that can be found on his site. Compare it to the follow up that
is present on the work published here above....

The signature on the work represented here.
Draw your own conclusions. It has been
recently confirmed by the artist. This one must
have been produced in the early eighties.
The subject is a farmhouse in the neighbourhood
of Oudenaerde (Belgium)
