Gard van Mechelen / J Meeuwis / Gabriel Meiring

Gard van Mechelen

This Belgium based painter takes a special place regarding
surrealistic paintings for us. This self portrait has some
elements of Christ in it what makes it surrealistic again.
Oil on panel. Dimensions: 45 / 50 cm.

Van Mechelen normally just signs his works with
"Gard" However this work hasn't been signed in
the front  but on the back as this picture states.
Gard van Mechelen died 16 november 2008
at 93 years of age.

J Meewis

This painter is very hard to trace but catches that
typical Belgium city atmosphere in this work.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 50 - 70 cm.

Gabriël Meiring

This presents an early work of the Brussels based artist
Gabriël Meiring. He was born in South Africa and in fact is a
concert pianoplayer. I'm intrigued by that of course as in
fact I'm a musician (guitarplayer) as well. We are planning
to visit his workshop in Brussels in the near future.
Another remarkable thing is that this painting has been
done on silk. Oil on silk. Dimensions 35 / 45 cm.

The first painting has been sold regretfully but we always
kept looking for another work by his hand. And just recently
we were lucky enough to bid on two at one time. We liked
his older work maybe being more in the style of the Art
Deco but with his own touch to it. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 22 / 28 cm.

The whole work is not that big but the details
are there and worth an observation.

Very different approaches in material expression:
Some done in paint but others even in colour pencil.

Suggesting depths in the golden part of this shot.

And of course his signature which states it
to be made in 1976. A keeper to our believe.

And the second one being even smaller!
Called "The Puppet" with same attention to details.
