B. Valkenburg / Louis Valtat / Pino la Vardera

Bertha Valkenburg  (1862-1922)

A very well preserved watercolour we were able to obtained

at an affordable price probably thanks to the dirt on the glass plate 

that covered this work. The colours seemed to be fainted but

in fact were not at all. A fresh watercolour to these days

allthough these kind of subjects are hardly choosen by artists

anymore. Work on paper. Dimensions: 37 / 52 cm.

And of course her signature. Most watercolours  

from her hand are around a hammer price of € 500,- 

Louis Valtat ( 1869 - 1952 )

Probably an earlier work of this post-impressionistic painter

who later worked in a fauvistic style. As with these more valuable

paintings it will be hard to be able to make a final conclusion

wether if it really is from his hand. Work on canvas 38 / 46.

In inches: 14,96 / 18,11. These dimensions seems to be 

comfortable for Valtat as they can be found more often

in auction results.

The colors are a bit difficult to catch.

The painting holds some really nice details in it and though

his later works are more "moving" he actually worked in 

quite a lot of different styles. This detail shows a bit the way

Valtat paints his "umbrellas' in other works. See below.

Suggestion plays an important role in his works.

Louis Valtat or not: This must have been painted by 

someone who is gifted and should be "on the map".

Most likely the beach umbrella's were ment by Valtat.

Pino la Vardera

A rather small but intriguing work from this Spain based

Italian painter. Though he uses a lot of colors the harmony

is still there. Oil on panel. Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.

After some investigation his signature has been 

scratched in the paint but hardly visible.

Another work that luckily was signed though hardly readable

but in the end Vardera was clear to us and that was enough.

Oil on panel / paper. Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm. We think it to

be a farmer and a donkey heading homewards.
