Desert / Napoleons' Army? / Feremans

A rather small anonymous work painted on panel.
Strange thing is that the back of the panel has been sticked
with canvas. It does not appear to be that old. However
the scenery has been done with craftsmanship and the
way the small figures (especially the horses) have been
done betrays that the painter is a professional.
Oil on panel. Dimensions: 20 / 29 cm.

A detail of this rather small work.

And by taking this painting out of its' frame we
discovered a possible monogram below in the
middle: CR what could stand for Charles Rochussen!

Presented here is the complete painting (out of its' frame)

This work that has been auctioned at Christies shows
similarities in approach as it is known that Rochussen
at an older age started to work more in an
impressionistic way.

This picture has been added as an example of the artillery
of the French during the African operation of 1798 /
1799. Sometimes the newer tenues in blue were
used but often the older royalist ones as the color
blue was expensive in those days! On the painting
some figures are wearing robes as well. The canon
also confirms this supposition.

There are a lot of falsifications in Belgium of this artist.
His work is recognizable particularly in the use of the
colour green. By clicking on the pic you can enlarge it.
Work on panel: Dimensions: 40 / 60 cm.

Feremans (Adrienne?)

Of course this was a nostalgic move of us. The atmosphere
between these two paintings is very much the same….
But not the same painter!
