Louis Garin / J.J. Garjeanne / Victor Gaspar / Simon van Gelderen

This painting bears no signature but has been stamped by the
art expert and auctionneer Catherine Charbonneaux who lives
and works in France. I recently had contact with her and
this is what she wrote:

Dear sir, dear madam,
Thank you for your message. It is me who has sold the studio of painter Garin.
This painting was in this auction and the stamp attests. But I have no
more information about the location or the year of realization.
Thank you for writing. Best regards Catherine Charbonneaux

Here you are able to study this particular stamp exclusively
made for the paintings coming out of Garins' atelier.
Work on cardboard. Dimensions: 30 / 40 cm.

J.J. GARJEANNE 1860 - 1930

Quite exclusive as this dutch painter is more known for his watercolours.
Moreover the dimensions of this work are rare: 110 - 85 cm.
Though watercolours faint during their lifetime due to the sunlight
this painting has kept the freshness of being made yesterday.
His works are often assumed to be dated but in this work
the subtlety of the colours is astonishing, almost like
the English painter William Blake but translated to the
Dutch winterlandscapes. Oil on canvas.

A rather small work: Oil on panel.

And of course one of his watercolours
in his immediately recognizable style.

Victor Gaspar

A nice view that is called "Coin rustique a Baveno".
This village is situated at the south point of the Lago Maggiore.
At first sight it isn't evident that this is craftsmanship but
a more detailed inspection makes it obvious it in fact
is a well done work with the light the shadow parts
and the specific housecolours that are present there.

We found this label on the back and think it to be done
in the sixties or seventies, so a later work by this artist.

Besides sea- and landscapes, Gaspar did still lifes as well!

A simple signature but allways useful by determining his
genuine works. Oil on canvas. Dimensions:  25 / 33 cm.

Simon van Gelderen

Frans van Genesen / George Georoy / Adolf Gerhard / Piet Gillis

Frans van Genesen

This artist allways has a very rich use of colours
that sometimes results in a little disturbing
overall view.
Not with this painting that has the right atmosphere.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 50 - 80 cm.

George Georoy

Georges Rausenberger (1906-1983) ( = Georoy )

This Belgian painter and archtict was married to
Irene Bataille who is also a well known paintress.
It is logical that Georges Rausenberger was inte-
rested in buildings but we still have to investigate
where this scenery is situated. Our guess is Italy.
Oil on board. Dimensions: 30 / 40 cm.

Adolf Gerhard

A German painter who worked in different countries.
In this streetview of Naarden he went back to the Middle Ages.
Oil on Canvas. Dimensions: 60 / 80 cm.

Piet Gillis

This mixed media work has been signed with a
monogramme. As it is most likely a belgium work
the initials are pointing towards Piet Gillis partly
because of the caracteristic prefix G. Though we
are not certain the quality simply is present as
the artist used carcoal, watercolour and pencil
and created a nostalgic atmosphere with it.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 15 / 20 cm

Victor Gilsoul / Goats /

Victor Gilsoul

A somewhat forgotten artist but Gilsoul proved to be
the most succesful artist around 1920 in Belgium,
This is an earlier work. His palette became a
lot brighter later in his career.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 30 - 40 cm

Goats

A non readable signature but a
nice work anyway. Oil on board.

If anyone is familiar with this signature,
please let me know who the artist is.

Jack Godderis / Goethals / Paul Gomze

Jacques Godderis ( 1916 - 1971)

We bought this portrait being anonymous. However after
some investigations we could conclude it is one of a few
self portraits he made during his life time. And what
often is remarkable: Colors differ just by looking at
it from a different angle.

This detail gives some insight in how he builds up
his face and borders it with thick colorful lines.
Work on canvas. Dimensions: 70 / 83 cm.

And of course his signature: Just "Godderis".

Albert Goethals Sr.  (1885 - 1973)

This painter from Bruges (Belgium) worked a lot
in his town of birth. A lot of painters were inspired
by this beautiful historic city. Albert Goethals in
fact made a whole serie of etchings from all kind
of spots in his native town as did hisson later on.
Work on Canvas. Dimensions: 70 / 90 cm.

This painting is all about the light and the contrast
of it when sunlight was playing alongside the houses

As the light clearly comes from the opposite this
side of the bridge reflects in a very dark way.

And his signature of course. Changing a bit over time.

Paul Gomze

This watercolor we acquired for very little. Sometimes
it is a mystery for us how it can be possible that other
people are simply not interested as it is quality to
our believe. This artist hasn't been mentioned in the
registered works of Paul Piron but auction results in
the past are proving he should have been.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 33 / 43 cm.

At first we saw an "R"  as the first prefix. By a better observation
it appears that we should have read a "P" what makes it complete:
Paul Gomze, in fact a member from a whole family of artists.

Arnold Gorter / Jaak Gorus

Arnold Gorter ( 1866 - 1933 )

A nice work on canvas from most likely Arnold Gorter
is presented here. The signature is difficult to distinguish
but is there in the lower right corner. Probably washed
away when cleaning this painting. His subjects are
often the so called "Vordense  Beek" which stands
for a small water between the meadows in the Netherlands.
Vorden is situated in the eastern part of Holland.

A bit less frequently done by this painter: Ducks resting.
Careful examining the brush strokes the painter made to
reproduce the sandy edges on the left learns that this was
absolutely the way Gorter did this in a lot of his paintings.
The same thing counts for the light, the birch trees and
the water expression. He often depicted the various
seasons at the same spot. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

You are able to enlarge this photo by clicking on it and
a comparison with the signature here below is revealing!
It appears that he signed his works in a later stage as the
paint more than often lies on the brushstrokes of the
painting itself. See two other signatures here below
and judge for yourself.

This signature also is hardly readable due to possible
cleaning of the painting. The prefixes however do
resemble each other (once discovered!)

Jaak Gorus

A very delicate dry needle technique by this belgium artist.
Prints in Belgium are sometimes still
rewarded by the "Jaak Gorus Prize".
Work on paper. Dimensions: 20 - 25 cm.

Paul Gosselin / Charles Gouweloos

Paul Gosselin

A impressionistic and luministic approach of this Belgium
born painter that has a lot of atmosphere in it.
By clicking on the picture you are able to enlarge it.

Charles Gouweloos

A nice impressionistic and typical view of a small
church in western Belgium from this painter. It still
has to be cleaned to let it give away its' best!
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 33 / 41 cm.

And here the proper cleaning is finished. It becomes more
clear now that Gouweloos of course attempted to catch
the typical autumn light, the playing of it on the trees,
the grass and of course the church. I haven't photoshopped
the colors in any way! But anyway they are so much
"deeper". Pictures taken in the same afternoon!

And of course his typical signature. The touches on the walls
above the signature however also deserve a closer examination.

Rene de Graeve / Johannes Greeve / Grimberg

de Graeve from Herentals (Belgium) was a ver y gifted
portrait maker and besides that he painted as well. He
died quite young but recently had an exposition on which
there were drawings besides oil paintings.

Presented here is his signature but this work has also been
signed on the back of this work.

Johannes Greeve

This is a nice sketch, presumably for a later work in oil.
Though only a few colours have been used it certainly
has atmosphere. We immediately liked it!
Watercolour, heightened with chalk.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 40 - 60 cm.

At first this signature was very obscure but
thanks to the RKD (Institute for Art documentation
in the Hague) they maybe solved this problem.
It should say "Greeve". (1850 - 1923) but
we still doubt that. Moreover the quality of Johannes
Greeves'other work isn't that convincing nor
comparable to this one.

Grimberg (?)

Ludwig Gschosmann (1894 - 1988) / Marthe Guillain / Arthur Haegebaert (1876 - 1942)

This German painter made a lot of paintings around the
Tegernsee which is south of Munich. The depictings are
often choosen in a romantic mood but the way he worked
was more impressionistic and even with a palet knife.

The subtle color nuances are making this a lively
work where a lot can be discovered. Therefore I've
added some detailed photo's.

Nature in all its' flourishing moods can be seen here
almost in the way the romantic painters use to do.

From this point Gschossmann made several works.

This work is a oil on canvas: Dimensions 60 / 80 cm.
It had no frame when we bought it but having a more
modern approach we figured the frame had to be more
"recent'  as well.

Marthe Guillain

A kind of a sketch in a nice fluid style Marthe Guillain is
known for. Oil on canvas / wood. Dimensions: 25 / 26 cm.

Presented here is a detail of this oil painting.

Encadrement but not for everyone. The color blue
is coming back but this one is typical for the fifties
of the past century.

Due to the cleaning process the signature fainted a bit
but some typical features in her signature in fact always
are there. Probably signed after some time this work
was finished.

Arthur Haegebaert  ( 1876 - 1942 )

Arthur Haegebaert learned at the Academies of Brugge, Antwerpen
and Brussel.  He had a friendship with James Ensor, Constant Permeke
and Isidoor Opsomer. From 1914 until 1921 he stayed in the Netherlands
and lived in Middelburg. He did a lot of city views there as well as dune-
and landscapes of Walcheren. He painted in an impressionistic style in
colors that are fresh to these days. Work on board. Dimensions: 30 / 49 cm

And of course a close up from his
signature on this painting

The second picture of the signature also is showing
a part of the frame that confirms our supposition
that our painting has to be from the same period as
the painting shown here. Most likely both paintings
received their (original) frame in Belgium.

A still life with Orchids, a subject tis painter is not
known for. But beautifully executed anyway!
Oil on canvas: 50 / 70 cm.

And his signature of course. We think this to be a later
work as this work is in a remarkable good condition!
