Lucien Levy Dhurmer (1865 - 1953) / Dictus

Though this ain't the best photo of this work we've included this
one because of the strange edges as if it has been pointed on a
piece of wood. It has to be a kind of litho but we couldn't find it
on the internet. Dhurmer was one of France most important
symbolists. That's why we've included it here. Under the next
picture you can find a little bit more information regarding the
publisher of this so called litho.

10 drawings should have been made on luxury Japanese paper.
All 270 have been made fac similés, according to the procédé Marotte
on heavy cardboard. Further investigations could possibly
say that it is a kind of heliotype way of print, whatever that
means. The signature is undoubtedly from the hand of Dhurmer.

Exposed here is the signature of Lucien Levy Dhurmer.
It is an honest way of working as the number and size of
the edition are written under the signature. The title of this
work is  "Les meres pendant la Guerre". and we've added
the full description in french here: Published by Paris,
Devambez. 1917. (1917)

Paris, Devambez. 1917. Edition originale. E.O. Illustrations de LEVY-DHURMER, Lucien. Dictus

At first sight we believed this work to be an etching.
However it has been done in pencil and thus must have been
a lot of work. Work on paper. Dimensions: 20 / 25 cm.

Margueritte Dielman / Joseph Diels / Tine van Doornik

This is a beautiful crayon by Margueritte Dielman who
lived from the end XIX century till the beginning of the
of the XXth century. Work on paper.
Dimensions 45 - 65 cm.

Joseph Diels

A view on one of the docks in Antwerp harbour where
Diels made a lot of paintings. As he signed his works
with J. Diels it can be confusing as tthere is also a
fine painter called Jeff Diels. This painting has been
doen in an expressionistic way and in this painting
the artist really catches the atmosphere of these places.
Work on Canvas. Dimensions: 43 / 53 cm.

Tine van Doornik

Though sold allready I still dig this watercolour.
We had contact with her daughter. Tine painted
these animals being for hours in the Zoo (Artis)
Work on paper. Dimensions 40 / 70 cm.

Sylvain Douven / Jean Dratz / Emiel van Dromme

The mood in this work is very appealing to me
A beautiful work by the nephew of Jean Douven,
two giftes belgian artists. Work on canvas.
Dimensions: 50 / 60 cm

For the signature enthousiasts!

Jean Dratz

This Belgium catches the silent and maybe even holy
mood these snowscapes have. It was his specialism.
But besides that he was a gifted and much asked designer.

Some details. Note the trees in the background that
in fact can hardy be seen but certainly are there.

The subtle use of the color blue plays an important
role in these paintings of which he made a few.

And his signature of course. Work on canvas. He often used the
same kind of encadrement that was veneered with genuine Brasilian
rosewood.  Very heavy and big. As this painting was sold to an art
lover in France I stated already that he could only buy it without
it. I'm using the veneer for the more precious guitar heads now
so it will "live" on. Dimensions: 80 / 100 cm.

Emiel van Dromme

A lot of his works popped up just recently at an auction.
They really differed in quality and prices as well.
This painting was hanged very high and hardly
visible but we bought it and were not disappointed!
A belgium based artist who painted a kind of comic
situation: When there's nothing left for you
you can't expect having a dog of big class beside you....
Oil on canvas / board. Dimensions 30 - 40 cm.

Raoul Dufy

These views Raoul Dufy made more than often.
This is quite a big one and probably can be dated
being made in the thirties.Probably printed by
Editions Fernand Mourlot in Paris. They use a
specific kind of thick paper. This one shows us
le Port de Trouville as he made more litho's at
this specific point.
Work on paper. Dimensions 25 / 62 cm.

Allready classical art as I find it hard to place.
The works of Dufy still have a freshness to
these days and are therefore sought after.
This one is on Arches paper and has been stamped.
Date of creation probably 1950.
Work on paper. Dimensions 50 / 70 cm.

Allways joyful and interested in musicians this work
breathes a kind of a party atmosphere! Can be dated 1951.
Strangely enough this litho can be found on the internet
as a watercolor but there are differences! Besides that Dufy
is using different colors. A comparison is revealing!
The second one is a watercolor from 1951.
Dimensions: 66 / 50 cm.

Quite remarkable is the message written on this litho.
Having seen written letters of Dufy on the internet
I expect it to be original. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 20 / 30 cm.

At first we thought it to be a similar message on the same litho
but then it most likely would have been printed one way or another
afterwards. This message has been written in pencil as opposed to
the message on the litho above which has been done in ink.
The same handwriting on to different litho's bought during a
few years separated from each other.: This must be original!
We will call this one "After the concert"".
Work on paper: Dimensions: 17,5 / 23 cm.

Raoul Dufy in fact made a lot of illustrations for books.
This work is a genuine litho but made for a book. The
work itself should be in a collection particuliere as the
text states. We call it "The Chamber Orchestra".
Work on paper. Dimensions: 30 / 40 cm.

We recently obtained this litho BUT it seems to have been
cut off in the past as on the picture below found on the internet
you are able to see the whole scenery. Maybe the  Bois de
Bologne (Paris) is depicted here. This litho has been signed
in pencil but not by Raoul Dufy as he never used capital
letters. On the left the prefixes H.C. are written as well.

All of the printworks Dufy made during his lifetime can
be found on the internet so this one also popped up
and was put up for sale somewhere in eastern Europe.

Besides all kinds of sceneries, Dufy did a lot of
flowers and other still lives as well as can be seen here.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 30 / 24 cm.
This one has been printed on Arches paper.

The same dimensions as the former one but on
the other hand it is not clear to us wether if this
one was produced the same year. 1953 was the
year Raoul Dufy died. One of his last lithographs?

At first glance we didn't thought this one to be in the style
of Raoul Dufy but I was triggered enough about this "unknown"
artist that we decided to buy it. And in fact a good buy as this
litho has been published in about 1963 in a book about different
artists that made special works one way or another. This litho
depicts a part of "La Fee electricite"  a huge work of art that
can be admired in Paris. The dimensions of the original?
1000 cm in height and 6000 cm width (NO mistake!)
He made it in several part. Presented here is only a part of it.

And another litho with fruit and even here the livelyness is
remarkable. Dufy enloys a growing popularity as his work
appears to be timeless. Dimensions: 26 / 34 cm.

Forgeries

It is very difficult to determine wether this is a litho or a genuine
watercolor or even a mix of the two as more than often artists added
accents with watercolor paint on a litho or used a black and white
litho to have them coloured in afterwards. Not the style that finally
made him famous but he of course developed himself to that
later style as he painted impressionistic in the beginning of
his career. Work on paper. Dimensions:30,5 / 39,5 cm.

In the signature I am supposing to see that the "forger" made
some corrections while placing it. Furthermore quite convin-
cing and Raoul Dufy often placed his signature in the middle
below. His later skies are different but on earlier works you
are able to find similar ones. This work holds some freshness
in itself and for that reason we are unable to make a final
conclusion. Feel free to e-mail me: acakoevoets@kpnmail.nl

Renee Marie Dujardin / Otto Eerelman

René Marie Dujardin made this one in Greece.
Though not that big it has the power of
summer in the mediterinian countries.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 20 / 30 cm.

An oil painting by the same artist. Here Dujardin worked
in a kind of two dimensional way so no exact perspective.
A same kind of treatment has been used to place the flowers:
"Just do not give them depth" that has a disarmingly effect.
RtThat's the way you can keep emotions simple and direct.
Of course the combination of colors is nice.
Work on canvas. Dimensions: 60 / 80 cm.

And of course presented here his signature on oil paintings.
Rene Marie Dujardin was a very gifted designer and then
the surprise must be there when the moment is there he just
leaves it all behind and starts something new to catch the
public. He worked in different styles but always has a
signature of his own. Dujardin died in 2002 being almost
90 years old!

Otto Eerelman

There seems to be a serie of different
dog races all lithographed by Otto
Eerelman who really is a gifted
artist and not only in drawings.

This signature has been signed on the stone that
has been used for this litho so quite
recognizable. Work on paper. Dimensions:
20 / 30 cm.

Elisabeth von Eicken (1862 - 1940)

One of the more renowned painters in Germany.
Besides beautiful oil on canvas landscapes (e.g. winters)
she made several watercolors as well. Birch trees often
were her favorites. She did some immaculate works
in the Alfred Sisley style whom she admired a lot.
This picture has never been taken out of its' frame
I'm planning to replace the back and place a piece of
acid-free paper behind this watercolor to prevent any
damage in the near future and to be able to make
better pictures of course.

Here her signature which is immediately recognizable.
Elisabeth von Eicken participated in the Ahrenshoop Art
collective situated near the Baltic sea and her workshop
now is a beautiful  residence where art still plays an
important role. Work on paper. Dimensions: 38 / 57 cm.

Adolf van Elstraete / Albert Embrechts

The river de Dijle taken from the Mechelsestraat in Leuven.
This Belgian painter lived from 1862-1939 so the situation
must have changed during the past century.
Oil on panel. Dimensions: 40 / 70 cm.

And of course the signature of this artist. Strange thing is that
his still lifes aren't that wanted but these city views (especially
from Leuven) is quite another story.

Albert Embrechts

Embrechts made a lot of flower oriented paintings.
His very realistic colours made him loved in Belgium.
Dimensions: 45 - 70 cm.

Eric / Felix Eyskens / Dino Fantini

Better known under this name as a strip story artist
he also made drawings in his own way.
his own name was Van den Meulenbroeck.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 30 - 40 cm.

Felix Eyskens

Felix Eyskens was one of the pupils of Franz Courtens
and absolutely was a talented one. However he was often
a landscape painter while most people like city views
or paintings of the daily life with people and animals.
Paintings as presented here a quite scarce but he sure-
ly had the talent for it. Work on panel. Dimensions:
30 / 44 cm.

And a picture of his signature mostly better readable.

A small oilpainting on board by this Belgium artist.
This landscape looks like a simple work by this artist.
However when you examine it more closely it has been
done with a lot of craftsmanship. All brush strikes are
spot on! Work on board. Dimensions: 25 / 25 cm.

Dino Fantini

A very intriguing painting regarding the subtle color
effects. Therefore I've included some details as well.
Also the light has been catched very credible.

The subtle colour accents can be found everywhere.
Probably that is the last move on his paintings as
some colours can be found exactly in different
spots in this painting.

The moisture with the water simply is there but
the sophistication is remarkable.

The signature surprisingly shows the prefix P but the
overall style is so convincing it has to be from Dino
Fantini. Work on canvas. Dimensions: 50 / 60 cm.

Eugene Fehdmer / Adrienne Feremans / Theodore Feucht

While we like the skills of the two Fehdmer
brothers we keep investigating in their art.
Especially the birch trees are a speciality
of this german born watercolourist.
Work on paper. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

We recently obtained this watercolour that has been
signed clearly lower left: E. Fehdmer Bruxelles 1891.
The next one has been sold to us by an auction house
being a genuine Eugene Fehdmer. Seeing this
work we really doubt that.
Work on paper. Dimensions 25 - 35 cm.

This watercolour comes out of the belgium period of this artist
from Germany. Together with his better known brother Richard
they produced a lot of landscapes, often in the surroundings
of Antwerp. Work on paper. Dimensions: 35 - 45 cm.

Adrienne Feremans

Much in the style of Depuits, Feremans delivers a
fine piece of impressionistic art to us. Oil on board.

There were some doubts about who was the artist as there is an
Adolf Feremans and an Adrienne Feremans but why starting
a signature with Ant: The explanations lies in the fact that this
painting must have been produced in Antwerp. Strange
thing in the signature of Adrienne Feremans is the point
placed after the first prefix "F". It is present here too!

Theodore Feucht ( 1867 - 1944 )

A lot of work left to be done on this painting but it is a challenge
of course! There is a certain kind of freshness to it and the
color green especially is present in different tones. After some
work you can already see the progress in the second picture.
The sky remains a strange move in this painting however…
Location: The city "Sonthofen" in Allgau (Germany)
Oil on cardboard. Dimensions: 50 / 68 cm.

No doubt about it: Unmistakable Theodore Feucht.
